Build / Comfort
The build of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds is impressive. They look and feel like high-end IEMs, not consumer earbuds. The understated aesthetic—matte-finished earbuds paired with a compact charging case wrapped in premium fabric—feels both modern and durable.
Eartips and Seal
Sennheiser has gone to great lengths with these buds to help you find the perfect seal for sound quality and noise isolation. They come with silicone ear tips in sizes XS, S, M, and L.
Additionally, they include silicone ear fins (in S, M, and L) which rest securely in the concha—the curved shell part of your ear—enhancing stability during movement. The fins are soft and flexible, ensuring a snug but non-intrusive fit.
The Sennheiser Smart Control app also features a fit test to help you position them for optimal sound quality and ANC performance. It might feel like overkill, but it ensures you’ll find the right fit.
Design
In terms of materials, the earbuds feel solid yet lightweight. The IP54 rating means they can handle sweat and splashes, making them suitable for workouts or wet conditions.
I love the sleek charging case with its robust magnetic closure. It has a magnetic pull that neatly aligns the earbuds into their charging slots—a small detail that feels satisfying and ensures proper contact for charging. The case is equipped with both USB-C charging and wireless charging capability.
Improvements
Comparing these to their predecessors, the Momentum TW3, Sennheiser has packed in significantly more tech while making the buds more compact. This tech makes them relevant for future advancements in true wireless sound.
On the inside, they use Qualcomm’s S5 Gen 2 Sound Platform, enabling high-res audio with aptX Adaptive and Lossless codecs while optimizing power efficiency.
They also feature a new antenna design with Qualcomm’s RF Front End technology, which enhances connectivity by boosting signal strength, reducing noise interference, and speeding up pairing.
Sound: Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4
Frequency Response Diagram Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4
There is nothing wrong with the sound of these earbuds. It’s a very satisfying listen, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to improve.
Bass
The stock tuning of the TW4s is satisfying on the bass end. You feel it. The sub-bass lift dropping down around 100 Hz is perfect.
Midrange
The mids are a little strange on the stock tuning. Something is missing in the upper mid definition, which leads to a subtle sense that I’m not hearing things as they are.
For example, listening to Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony—a recording I know very well—the strings are exciting, the imaging is fantastic, and the soundstage is generous.
But the lacking element in the upper mids makes me feel like I’m listening to a recording rather than being in the space.
Treble
The treble is beautifully handled on these buds, giving sharpness to cymbals and string attacks while still tapering off enough to allow warmth.
Soundstage and Imaging
Frequency response is not everything. The technical prowess of these earbuds stands out in how they handle imaging and soundstage.
The imaging on a pan from right to left was perfectly smooth in our tests. More impressively, I felt the exact placement of instruments in a room.
The soundstage opens up around my head and never feels too tight.
Conclusions About the Sound
The 7mm TrueResponse dynamic drivers in the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4, the same used in the Momentum True Wireless 3, originate from the higher-end IEM drivers on models like the IE 900.
These don’t sound like the IE 900, but they have some pleasing dynamic slam.
Modern earbuds these days all use DSP (digital signal processing) to adjust frequency response to match standardized curves. In cheaper headphones, this often compensates for lacking driver hardware.
With the TW4, that is not the case. The hardware is capable.
However, the stock tuning and overall sound of the Sennheiser TW4 is a bit too “sexy” for my taste. Rather than aiming for balance and clarity, they seem to be trying too hard to please with their jacked bass and driving mids.
At the premium level of earbuds, I have to be picky. These are technically capable enough to be perfectly balanced, but their DSP tweaks seem aimed at pleasing consumers.
That said, I would rather listen to the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 than most consumer earbuds on the current market. If you’re looking for equal or better sound, the Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 are about on par with these, but the Galaxy Buds3 Pro still hold the crown for sound quality in consumer earbuds.
Connectivity
Connecting with the Sennheiser Momentum TW4 buds on both iOS and Android was smooth. We tested these earbuds with an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy, and the experience was consistent across both platforms.
Bluetooth
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4, which provided a solid and reliable connection throughout my testing. I never experienced any annoying dropouts, and the range was impressive, even when moving between rooms.
Sennheiser has future-proofed these buds, ensuring that users will benefit from the latest advancements in Bluetooth audio technology as they become available.
The earbuds support a wide array of audio codecs—SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive, and aptX Lossless. They also include support for LC3 (Low Complexity Communication Codec) and, with a firmware update, LE Audio and Auracast. (Auracast allows you to connect multiple headphones to one device so you can listen to the same song or podcast with a friend.)
Sennheiser Smart Control App
The Sennheiser Smart Control app, which works on both systems, is very good compared to most headphone apps. The setup and customization were quite simple, walking me through pairing and running a fit test. It includes a 5-band EQ with helpful presets.
Controls
The controls on the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds are implemented via capacitive touch plates, a modern and intuitive way to manage functionality without the need for physical buttons.
Capacitive touch technology is a significant departure from traditional earbud controls, which often rely on physical buttons that require pressure to activate.
In practice, I love these controls. You avoid the hard pressing of other buds, which often either moves the buds out of place or drives them further into your ear canal.
All the controls were reliable in our tests. There’s a slight learning curve to remember the gestures, but the responsiveness is generally excellent. However, environmental factors like rain or excessive sweat might occasionally lead to misinterpreted inputs.
Also handy—the controls are customizable via the Sennheiser Smart Control app, allowing you to tweak gestures to your liking.

Noise Canceling
When it comes to Noise Cancellation, I found the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds to be highly capable, especially in handling low and midrange frequencies.
Passive Noise Canceling
Because Sennheiser offers so many options for getting a proper seal with your ear canal, the passive isolation is excellent on these buds. With a proper seal, the silicone eartips do a very good job of blocking out the upper-mids and treble.
ANC
I appreciated that the ANC didn’t introduce any pressure or weird hissing, which can sometimes happen with other ANC earbuds.
In the low frequencies, these buds excel with ANC (Active Noise Canceling). Low-frequency hum, like engine noise or city rumble, disappears. These perform very well on a plane, train, bus, or any commute.
Like most ANC earbuds, they struggled a bit with sharp, high-pitched sounds—things like clinking dishes or a sudden dog bark. However, the passive isolation of the eartips helps offset this limitation of the ANC tech.
Transparency Mode
The Transparency Mode on the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds stands out with its customizable intensity, which I adjusted through the Smart Control app to suit different environments.
Unlike many earbuds, the app lets you fine-tune how much ambient sound you want. I loved how natural and balanced the sound felt compared to other transparency modes I’ve tried.
You’re able to go from subtle awareness for an office to full clarity while walking in traffic. The quick toggle with a single tap on the left earbud makes switching seamless.
On the whole, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 holds its own against the competition, especially when dealing with steady low-frequency noise. While they don’t erase noise quite as well as the Sony WF-1000XM5 or the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, they deliver in most situations.
Battery Life
Battery Life of Popular In-ear, true wireless earbuds Compared
The Sennheiser Momentum TW4 don’t offer the outstanding battery performance of their over-ear Momentum 4 siblings, but they still hold their own against competitors.
Sennheiser states that with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on, these earbuds deliver up to 7.5 hours of playback on a single charge, which extends to a total of 28 hours when factoring in the additional charges provided by the case.
When we tested the earbuds on continuous playback at 70% volume, they lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes.
As you can see in the chart above, most premium earbuds offer similar battery life when it comes to the earbuds alone. With the case, however, the Sennheiser Momentum TW4 sits near the top alongside the AirPods Pro 2 and the Jabra Elite 10.
Calls
For our call tests, we tested in normal and windy conditions.
The Sennheiser TW4 handled calls well without any dropouts in our tests. The audio quality is lacks a bit of treble clarity but everything was intelligible. They handled calls under windy conditions better than most earbuds. You can hear the results for yourself below.

Final Thoughts: Are the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 Worth It?
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds offer a compelling mix of premium build quality, advanced features, and solid performance.
They look and feel like high-end IEMs rather than typical consumer earbuds, with a modern and durable design and a sleek charging case.
Although there is room for improvement, the sound is unarguably pleasing. The bass is great, and the treble is well handled.
At current sale prices, they are cheaper than the Sony WF-1000XM5, about on par with the AirPods Pro 2, and half the price of the Bowers & Wilkins Pi8.
Considering all this, I believe the Sennheiser TW4 earbuds are worth it. Sound-wise and price-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro are still superior, but you wouldn’t be disappointed with the Sennheiser TW4.
